Course Reading

In this session we explore a religionless reading of the Crucifixion via a excert from Christ and the End of Meaning. Here we explore the unsettling idea that the phrase "Christ Crucified" reflects a total rupture of meaning in our world, rather than something that fits within a matrix of meaning.

Session 2: Crucifixion

Paul Hessert (1925-2001) taught historical theology and systematic theology at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Ill. His publications include Introduction to Christianity and the excellent Christ and the End of Meaning (which I have included as a PDF as it has been out of prints for many years).
