Building on Fire | The Pyrotheology Cartel
Directly inspired by a form of teaching deveoped by Lacan, the cartel is a small working group designed to foster collective study and personal engagement with the theory and technology of Pyrotheology.
Cartels are small groups that include a “plus-one” who helps guide the group's work without dominating it.
The structure is designed to avoid hierarchical structures and encourage collaborative exploration, often focused on a particular concern. The group works together for a set period, after which members can dissolve the cartel and form new ones. This structure aims to maximise subjective engagement, while avoiding the pitfalls of institutional rigidity. Indeed the word “cartel” is used to signify this para-institutional dimension of the group.
I will be taking the role of the plus-one for the first cartel. The plus-one does not take the role of a leader, teacher, or authority figure but rather a facilitator who helps maintain the group's focus and cohesion. Their role is to ensure the group stays dynamic, focused and productive, but they do not dictate the direction or content of the work. This dynamic is crucial because it decentralizes authority and encourages everyone to contribute equally.
Structure
The initial cartel will meet online once a month for 90 minutes. This will take place on last Monday of every month at 10am PST, 6pm GMT. If more than twelve people wish to participate, a second meeting will be created on a different day.
It will initially be comprised of a maximum of twelve. A theme will develop out of the introductory conversations and the group will work together for a year.
These cartels are primarily for people who wish to put pyrotheology into practice and who are reasonably well versed in the theory.
