I’m facilitating a two week reading group on a brilliant paper by Jean-Luc Marion called ‘In the Name’, which includes a response from Derrida. The reason why I’ve chosen this article is because it offers an incredible insight into the similarities and differences between mystical theology (Denomination) and Poststructural theory (Deconstruction). Both are interested in how we deal with the unspeakable, but one is rooted in the sacred traditions while the other arises from the secular.
This reading group will offer the following,
An understanding of some important philosophical terminology (including Deconstruction, Denomination, Metaphysics of Presence, Onto-theo-logy).
An understanding of mystical thought and its relation to Poststructuralism
An understanding of how not-knowing is part of knowing
If you’d like to be part of the reading group, all you need to do is sign up to Flame on Patreon (which will also give you access to hundreds of hours of other courses, talks and reading groups).
The essay is to be found in the book God, the Gift and Postmodernism, but everyone will receive a PDF.
