Parables are a type of disturbing dis-course that have the ability to knock us off course. They quietly confront us with disturbing truths that we try to avoid and have a nasty habit of revealing what we would prefer to keep hidden.
At turns funny, poignant, irreverent and shocking, they cut into us with surgical precision, reaching deep into the hidden recesses of our soul, operating on those parts of our being that more direct speech can't touch.
Today, as much as ever, we need parables that can speak to the contemporary moment, challenge our orthodoxies and help to bring healing.
This is the second in a series of three seminars that will explore how to write parables.
I’ll dissect some of my own parables to show the process in action, and there will be space for people to share parables they are working on for creative critique.
The final event will take place on 27th November.
These events will happen on the forth Friday of every month. Occasionally I might have to change the time or date if I’m traveling.
