In 1941 C.S. Lewis described the wish to write a biography on the life and thought of Ezekiel Bulver, a man who he claimed, was responsible for the foundations of 20th century thought. Foundations that ultimately undermined the legitimacy of thought.
In this seminar, I’ll be looking how Lewis’ satirical reflections on Bulverism have a surprisingly contemporary significance, cutting against the various claims of Identitarianism with an argument for the universal dimension of Reason.
Along the way, we’ll also assess Lewis’ attempt to ground Reason in a transcendent source. An argument that foreshadowed his famous, and controversial, debate with Elizabeth Anscombe.
This Pyro-seminar will be held in front of a live audience in Belfast, N. Ireland. Single tickets cost $12 (around £10) and there is a discount ticket for groups of 5. If you are already a patron at Flame or above, the event is free to attend (with a plus 1), just drop me an email to let me know you’re coming.
As always, it can also be watched live or later via Patreon. To access this - and all other - pyroseminars, you just need to be signed up to the Flame level, or above, on Patreon.
