Prometheus: Interrupted

  • Rutgers Church, New York, NY 236 West 73rd Street New York, NY, 10023 United States (map)

The Alien films represent one of the few cinematic events that have truly captured the cultural imagination. The various films revolve around the exploits of a terrifying and unrelenting species called the Xenomorph. A species that exhibits a destructive drive that lacks any restraint. While the early movies give the impression that this horrifying creature is something utterly foreign to us, the latest cinematic installment – Prometheus – offers us a glimpse into the origin of this creature that is much more terrifying: This monster isn’t some foreign agent from outer space. It is the material manifestation of our inner space.

With Alien: Covenant coming out in May, Peter Rollins will prepare us with a deep reading of Prometheus that draws out some of the philosophical and theological insights it holds. During this event, we’ll explore what the Xenomorth can teach us about ourselves.

We’ll watch significant sections of the movie together, with commentary from Peter at various points.
