God is Dead, and we Have Killed Him

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 – 1900) is one of the greatest 19th century thinkers. He was also an important cultural critic, poet, philologist, and Latin and Greek scholar whose work has exerted a profound influence on Western philosophy and intellectual history. At 44 he suffered a collapse and a complete loss of his mental faculties.

Recently I got into a conversation with the photographer Gavin Millar about the work of Nietzsche. The conversation lead to a road trip where we documented churches around Belfast and paired them with Nietzsche's cryptic parable of the death of God. Millar's brilliant portraits delve into the nature of desire, drive and the uncanny. His work brings to mind Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch and Helmut Newton. So I was very happy to play a small part in the project.

I've also included the full parable.
